I actually want to take a hammer to my Epson printer too as per the comment below. I am not tech savvy. Took my first one apart as per a youtube vid because of paper feed inoperative at one side hence jamming, and didn't do any good, I was bewildered, I'm no bloody good at this sort of thing ...... so got a replacement printer same agn (!!!) and its been supplied with non Epson cartridges but also a couple of months ago somehow my 'default' settings changed on this PC .... its all about as clear as mud. Like you alanford my hand is itching to get at a hammer yet at last weeks £129 spend for this so-called replacement its getting crazy. Luckily I kept the USB cable as non turned up with the replacement. I hate this so-called modern world at times like this.

Have an xp-6100 which won't print grey scale if any of the other cartridges are empty even tho my black is full. Infuriating!

I've got a WF-7620 and it seems impossible to reset the ink. My yellow is empty, but I only want to print with black (which is 100%). It's stupid. I don't understand why Epson do this except to make money from ink. I'm just going to purchase the yellow and be done with it.

So are you saying that any chip re-setter will work to reset any epson chips? I have one for a waste tank chip, would that work?

Just found this video. OMG, my Epson WF545 is driving me nuts. Especially with nearly new 3rd party cartridges which, after several head cleaning passes, are suddenly not recognized by the printer. I just ordered a chip resetter. We shall see!!

Sounds like giving false hopes to ppl who will think they will have endless ink or something..... Not the case ppl, you gotta know exactly what ur doin to refill them by hand. I know Epson plays games with thier ink so you might get a lil bit more outta them but doing them urself is the ticket.

Same problem with Epson printers and ink 6 years later. Mine's an XP-342 and if not used for while (7-10 days) the heads clog and you use half a cartridge-full to clean. Rip off Epson!

Thank you for the video. I don't quite understand the concept but from what I gather the little chip is programmed to automatically notify the owner they need ink before the person actually does... Mine has been telling us for 2 months we need ink and it still prints great. This tool may be an inexpensive way to stop the notification and ensure you get all of the ink you paid for. Some people would replace as soon as that notification goes off... This guy was just trying to help out the next person. 👏🏼

I got an Epson 7500 or whatever it was a few years ago for $25 and it was a $500 printer new.... Then bought a continuous ink system and used it for several years with no problems. Then one day the printer said "These are not genuine Epson ink cartridges- would you like to continue using them?" The printer has "No" selected so when you press the OK button it will never let you use an aftermarket cartridge again. I told my wife never to press that button and she forgot. Now I got another Epson, I guess it's never and it won't recognize the continuous ink system- SERIOUSLY INFURIATING! If I was smart enough I'd find a way to hack their dumbass printers and post it all over the internet. But then I'd probably get sued for messing with the ink cartridge Gestapo.

The ink carts for Epson must be able to refill. ..Not many do this or know about it, but the refill kits are cheap...

Gee thanx for the great info... I just bought an Epson printer...Ive had many different ones in the past. They were all junk..Same issue. When the ink runs out just throw the whole printer away and for about $5 more you can get a new printer with the ink.

Hello I bought some refill ink from Asda but its not working. I filled the black cartridge ink a few times but its just not budging. It still says black ink low. Would the resseter work for an Epson XP-442? Brilliant video. Thank you.

Bought a new epson printer and it keeps saying to replace ink cartridge, it wont print anymore after printing about 5 pages. Pile of crap printers

I've had Epson since around 2008. The first I actually broke myself by dropping it during a house move. The replacement was the WF545, which I am still using today. I little FYI: you can print just about any document using the *draft/fast quality setting in preferences/properties before pressing "print". That will extend the inks by about 50%+. I work in tech & have two adult children in uni and we ALL use this printer. I change my inks about 3 times a year. *(Results in a slightly paler print-- not for photos or when you want bright colours). RE: why you can't let an ink go empty/why it prompts you to replace yellow when you want to print black: the ink drops onto a pad which is then picked up by the printhead. If you don't run a bit of ink through it fairly often, that pad can go dry & harden-- never to work again. The "trickle" of colour ink keeps the pad moist & functional. Now, a printer that won't SCAN w/o ink-- that IS bullsh*t!

The best way to change ink in an Epson printer... Take a sledgehammer to the Epson, and then go by any other printer. What a lump of junk. Epsons just eat ink. You can never just hit the print button and have it work cuz it's always out of ink. Every one of them is absolute trash

What if you dissect the resetter to see what pins it shorts out?

I was told the best reason for buying a Epson printer was because when one of the colored ink cartridges runs out of ink, you can continue to print in black ink only - THAT IS A LIE. Each of the several ink cartridges must have ink, if even one is empty these copiers will not print and you get a message - "You can not print until the empty ink cartridge is replaced." An even bigger problem with Espon copiers, you select to print in "Black ink only" and yet the colored ink cartridges become empty even when you never use them - stay away from Epson copiers.

I want this shit taken off the market, before you think not business people today would rather scam customers of their hard earn money ,epson i think it is about time you all stop sell epson ink which are not compatible with the device.

You have to beat the 'replace ink cartridge error' alert to get this to work! Be fast or reinstall the software or, better, replace the junk printer!

Can you do it when the ink cartridge is "empty" or do you have to do it before? Also, do you have to refill ot with ink? Or can you just use it??
